Pavia

The design proposal forms part of a restoration project proposed for the former Customs area of Pavia, covering a landscaped area of around 64,000 square meters. The project is divided into green areas, pedestrian paths, cycle routes and functional nodes for hosting service facilities and recreational activities. The design strategy is based around a continuous orthogonal grid which regulates the open spaces giving them a homogeneous character across the site. Elements such as trees, lighting fixtures, irrigation equipment and furniture are inserted at each intersecting point of the grid. The layering of soft and hard landscaped surfaces fixed to the grid gives the effect of a uniform system of open space.
